Bilateral Relations :

Taiwan and the Philippines are two geographically neighboring countries, separated by the Batanes and Luzon Strait. Taiwan and the Philippines share a lot of similarities in geography, history and culture and have the same values of freedom and democracy. Both of the countries have long been enjoying close and substantial relations.

Taiwan-Philippine bilateral trade volume reached US$7.199 billion in 2007. Taiwan was the N0.6 trading partner to the Philippines, while the Philippines was ranked the 14th important trading partner to Taiwan.

The aggregated investment value from Taiwan up to 2007 amounted to US$1.82 billion, and is the 7 th largest foreign investment in the Philippines, just after Japan, USA, U.K., Netherlands, Singapore and South Korea .

Taiwanese tourists to the Philippines amounted to 1 12,206 sharing 4.3% of the total foreign visitors, making Taiwan the 6th largest tourist source country in 2007.

Taiwan is one of the major destination countries for Overseas Finipino Workers (OFWs). Currently, Taiwan is the Philippines’ 5 th top overseas labor market. There are more than 100,000 Filipino workers and migrants in Taiwan. The Filipino workers in Taiwan was the second largest workforce in 2007. The annual remittance from Filipino workers in Taiwan can be amounted to US$1 billion.

The air-links between Taipei/Kaohsiung and Manila are daily operated by China Airlines, Eva Air, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air, while other city destinations (i.e. Subic Bay, Clark, Cebu, Laoag) and connections are also available.

The mutual interactions and exchanges on other areas like culture, education, agriculture and aquaculture are vibrant.
