    Taiwan Office

Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines

If there is one establishment that can clearly describe Philippines’ relationship with Taiwan, it’s the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines. This is the “Taiwan Office” that can give you a lot of information about the “Heart of Asia”. From economic, liason and consular division to tourism information, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines is the best place to visit.

When it comes to bilateral relationship between these two neighboring countries, Philippines and Taiwan share a lot of similarities in various aspects like geography, culture and history. Some Philippine values are also not different with Taiwan’s like democracy and freedom values.

In the bilateral trade of the two countries, the volume reached US$7.035 billion in the year 2008. Taiwan was considered as the 6th most important trading partner of the Philippines while the latter was considered 14th most important trading partner of the “Heart of Asia”. Well, that only shows that Philippines only has a little work to do in terms of climbing its way to success. A few years more and our country’s “importance rank” will hike up without a doubt.

Taiwan’s total investment value in the year 2008 reached to US$1.841 billion. The country is also considered as the 7th largest foreign investment in the Philippines with Japan, USA, Singapore, South Korea, Netherlands and UK ahead of it. It’s really amazing how Taiwan, knowing that it’s far smaller than the Philippines, still manages to be one of the top countries that provide economic growth in the Philippines. Due to this fact, Taiwanese tourists in our country reached a pretty huge number of 118, 782 in the year 2008. That means that 3.78% of the total foreign visitors here in the Philippines are Taiwanese and that Taiwan is considered as the 6th largest tourist source here.

We all know that tourism helps the Philippines economy a lot, right? That’s why our country is putting its best effort to have a nice relationship with neighboring countries like Taiwan. Not only that, in overseas employment, Taiwan is also 6th of the top OFW destinations. The latter country also gets benefits from OFWs as Filipino workers are the third largest workforce in the year 2008. Presently, an approximate number of 100,000 OFWs are working in Taiwan – which actually means that the annual remittance from OFWs can reach up to US$1 billion. If you will look at it in a broader perspective, it’s a win-win situation, right?
